Yea... nitrogen itself is snake oil. If someone in your mechanic's shop took proper care of the compressed air system, the air (which is 78% nitrogen anyway) would be dry... which is where the real benefit comes from.
Now, shops that have paid out $5K for a nitrogen filling machine have to make that money back.
